Shopify Website Redesign

Sisters & Co is enjoying their redesigned online shopping experience for their customers.

The Challenge

Sisters & Co is New Zealand’s leading store for women's designer clothing with a combined following of 37,000 users across social media platforms and 4 stores across New Zealand.

Sisters & Co reached out to KiwiSprout because they wanted a redesigned shopping experience for their Shopify website to better engage customers across New Zealand.

The Process

Planning & Research

To learn about the client and their customers, we want to know their branding, core values, goals for the website, and how their target audience interacts with the website. This helps us design and develop a shopping experience that works best for the client.

From our planning and research, we identified ways that customers struggled using the existing website, and designed elements to address these problems such as:

  • Easier website navigation by designing mega-menus.
  • Improving the process for adding a product to the cart, including finding and selecting the correct size.
  • Recommending similar products to keep customers browsing.
  • Providing real time search results so customers could quickly find what they want.

Design

In parallel to the new website, Sisters & Co was undergoing a brand refresh which involved a new color palette, logo and typography which had to be reflected on the new site. To create these designs, we used Figma which allows us to create professional designs quickly for every type of page we need on both desktop and mobile devices.

During the design phase we rapidly prototype website elements to see how something works and could be interacted with before committing development time to it, which is great for vetting new ideas and features.

When the final designs were ready, we sent them to Sisters & Co to preview.

Development

With the designs signed off, we began developing the website in Shopify. As we develop the website, our changes occur on a staging link in Shopify, so that we can show our client where we are at during check-ins.

As part of our development, we created and integrated a serverless API that handles the search functionality and collection filtering. The benefit of a serverless API is it automatically scales with user demand, which is crucial for stores that stock popular brands and can get a sudden influx of traffic, by using serverless architecture we can ensure we deliver the same experience to 1 concurrent user as we do to 10,000 concurrent users.

Sisters & Co’s serverless API also utilizes both fuzzy and predictive searching to anticipate what users want to see and delivering the best choice of search results quickly.

Launch

As part of launching a new website, we perform a full quality assurance to make sure we're delivering the best quality experience possible. After the website passed all of our QA tests, we deployed it live onto Shopify at the scheduled go-live date with no issues.

The Results

Sisters & Co is enjoying their growth and improved user experience from the new website, which loads an average of 280% faster with a 34% higher conversion rate.
