From humble beginnings as a Trade Me account started in 2015, Game Kings is now New Zealand’s largest online store dedicated to tabletop gaming. Alongside supplying local and global favourites, Game Kings produces best-selling games including Kiwis Versus Morality, Tākaro, and more.

Redesigning the shopping experience

Our work with Game Kings started with redesigning their Shopify website in the lead up to the busy BFCM and Christmas period of 2019. Their original website was difficult to navigate, slow to load, and didn’t effectively engage with their customers.

Through our design and ideation process, we worked with Game Kings to create effective solutions to these problems, and introduce new features for a unique shopping experience, including a curated gift finder.

The end result was a Shopify website with a conversion rate at more than double the average for their industry, effectively engaging customers across desktop and mobile.

Creating a custom loyalty solution

Game Kings is enjoying a custom loyalty solution that integrates with their Shopify store.

Game Kings had tried plenty of Loyalty Systems in the past, but none felt truly integrated with the store and shopping experience, often forcing customers to have a separate login for the loyalty system that took them away from the website.

This new loyalty system needed to feel like part of the website and connect with customer’s existing accounts, as well as provide the flexibility to entice and engage customers with new ideas.

Our experience with creating custom Shopify solutions and complex applications enabled us to assist Game Kings with creating a fully custom loyalty solution, including features such as:

  • Integration with Klaviyo for email marketing, including the ability to create customer segments and automated email flows based on loyalty activity.
  • A fully automated referral system, incentivising word of mouth growth among their customers.
  • Seamless integration with their Shopify website, allowing for customers to easily earn and spend loyalty points.
  • A secure admin area where Game Kings can view insights and manage their loyalty system.
